Our School Dog Arthur

Our school dog, Arthur, has been with us since September 2020. He is a black cavapoochon, a hypoallergenic breed, and is in school with us every day.

We are training Arthur up to be a therapy dog. At the moment, Arthur’s work with the children is centred around visiting classes on his lead with Miss Boustead, where he meets the children, has lots of pats and occasionally pinches labels and books from the floor. He also takes part in Book Club groups in KS2 although he needs to work a little on his concentration skills…

He has completed his Puppy Foundation training classes and is now working towards his Kennel Club Bronze Award. Once Arthur is ready, we will put more structure into his sessions with the children.

No child will ever be forced to work with Arthur. We’ve already had lots of  lovely feedback from parents whose children were previously scared of dogs, but now love coming home with stories of what Arthur has been up to, but involvement with him will always be at the choice of the child.
